The pool and rear of the houseThe Domaine de l'Ardagnole is in the Aude, near the hamlet of Fajac-en-Val, in the Corbières hills. Although just 20 km from Carcassonne, l'Ardagnole is tranquility and privacy personified. The house is south-facing, and at an elevation of about 400 metres there are superb views towards the Pyrenees.

The Domaine grounds extend to approximately 72 hectares (about 173 acres), and comprise pasture, "garrigue", deciduous and coniferous woodland, and two small lakes.

The main reception roomThe house has 4 double bedrooms, all en-suite, and an enormous reception room. There is also a large (12 x 6 metres) swimming pool, and a hard tennis court (and even table-tennis!).

The estate is let on a weekly basis, and is fully equipped with bed linen, towels etc. It is also available for letting for long weekends out of the high season.

The estate is a wildlife lover's paradise, with bird species such as crossbills, crested tits and nightjars. In addition three types of eagle have been seen. Animals include badger, hare, sanglier (wild boar) and deer. In addition, the flora is exceptional, with wild orchids, miniature daffodils and iris, and a profusion of wild thyme and lavender.

If you ever tire of the estate, there is much to see and do in the surrounding area, from visiting the magnificent restored Cité at Carcassonne, to enjoying the fine restaurants in the region, and last but by no means least, tastings at the numerous wine-making estates, including the Corbières, Cabardès and Minervois appelations.
